The Asian chain of hotels Shangri-La have announced they will be opening a five-star hotel on Vienna’s Ringstraße in autumn 2010.
The hotel chain has claimed it will be the most exclusive hotel in the city and Thomas Jakoubek, manager of development firm Austria Immobilien (BAI) which is developing the building said he agreed.
At an expected development cost of more than 100 million Euros the hotel will house 207 rooms have a presidential suite with an area of 500 square metres and a 100 square-metre indoor swimming pool.
Architect Karl Baumschlager was quoted to say: “We have concluded that Vienna’s Biedermeier world is flexible enough to accommodate another culture.”He also stated that the hotel would be opulent and would no let opulence deteriorate into the shabbiness that characterised many so called “boutique hotels” after a few years.
Work on the new hotel is expected to cost more than 100 million Euros.
